چکیده

Sudden ice shedding from conductor bundles was modeled numerically and experimentally by improving the approaches proposed formerly for a single cable. The experimental study was carried out on a small-scale laboratory model of one span of a twin bundle. A numerical model of the experimental set-up was developed using the commercial finite element software ADINA. This model was validated by simulating (i) the vertical cable vibration during load shedding tests on a full-scale line of single conductors [1]; (ii) the bundle rotation on a full-scale twin bundle during static torsional tests [2]; and (iii) the vertical cable vibration and bundle rotation at mid-span during the present load shedding tests on a small-scale twin bundle. The coincidence of calculated and measured tendencies justified the applicability of the numerical model to simulate the vibration following ice shedding from bundled conductors in most cases. The model was finally applied to simulate sudden ice shedding from a full-scale span with a twin bundle. Simulation results showed that the application of spacers reduces the cable jump height during this vibration; however, a higher number of spacers in the same span does not decrease the angle of bundle rotation.

Numerical Modeling and Small-Scale Experimental Simulation of Ice Shedding Propagation on Bundled Conductors

Ice shedding propagation on bundled conductors is simulated numerically and experimentally. A numerical model was built using a commercial finite element software ADINA, whereas experiments were carried out on a small-scale setup in laboratory. The numerical and the experimental models simulate the propagation of ice shedding from one cable in a twin bundle together with the resulting vibration...

Simulation of Single Conductors Galloping Oscillations and Estimation of their Maximum Amplitudes

Overhead transmission lines are influenced by different factors which are mostly electrical and mechanical. These factors can cause problems for lines, distortions in network and outage of line. In designing transmission lines mechanical properties are evaluated after selecting a suitable conductor and clearance with regard to electrical properties. Estimation of stresses in atmospheric ice during aeolian vibration of power transmission lines

Aeolian vibration in bare and iced cable was simulated using the theory of cable vibration. High frequency vibration creates stresses in the cable and consequently in the ice covering that cable, which may result in ice failure and eventually ice shedding. These stresses were estimated in this study. Displacement of the cable during vibration was determined; furthermore, instantaneous wind load...
